  • !ISO 9001 helps organizations in improving quality, efficiency, customer satisfaction and continual improvement…
  • !ISO 9001 is compulsory else your bid would be rejected when applying for tenders, government contracts etc.
  • !The portal buyer’s vendor registration will not accept your file in case ISO 9001 is missing.
  • !Lack of documented corrective action on the previous quarter’s complaints identified by customer audit led to timeline for closure.
  • !Your certification is from unaccredited certification body, and your buyer’s verification team is asking for its credibility.
  • !Four ways to do the same job – because nothing was documented – Two plants Three shifts.
What it is

ISO 9001 is one of the most widely recognized standards for Quality Management System QMS. It provides a framework for organizations to consistently meet regulatory requirements, achieve operational excellence, deliver high-quality products and services, and enhance customer satisfaction.

Who issues it

In a certification body, resources play a vital role in meeting the expectation of customers, thus, it is essential to be audited by the accredited body as SIS Certifications.

Validity

The certificate is valid for three-year, subject to surveillance audit each year and recertification audit before the certificate expires.

Who can apply for ISO/IEC 22000 Certification?

Manufacturers, contractors, service firms and trading houses whose customers require ISO certification as part of vendor registration, tender pre-qualification or second-party audits.

What does ISO 9001 really require?

ISO 9001 requires consistent processes, customer focus, risk management, evidence, improvement, and measurable results.

1
Scope & context

This section deals with understanding the uniqueness of your organization and customizing ISO 9001 to implement a QMS that is most suitable for you.

2
Leadership & policy

It underlines the importance of top management in the implementation of QMS by proper risk assessment, planning actions, and assigning roles and responsibilities to the relevant staff.

3
Risk-based planning

through analysis of the risks and opportunities, the top management is expected to design a plan that enlists the quality objectives for your organization.

4
Competence & records

This section also deals with the requirements around competence, awareness, communication, and controlling documented information.

5
Operational control

It includes review of product requirements, keeping a check on external providers, reviewing the product before release, and so on.

6
Measurement & improvement

It involves regular reviews to identify gaps and performing corrective actions to close those gaps for continual improvement.

How ISO 9001 Certification Works

No Confusion. A Clear step by step Process from receiving your first call to receiving certificate in your hand.

Application & Proposal

We determine the certification scope based on your applicable sites, shift-wise headcount, in-house and outsourced processes, design responsibilities, and any requirements identified as not applicable.

1–2 days

Gap Review & Readiness

Calibration is common audit finding. A gauge used every shift is discovered to be three months overdue for its calibration, putting the validity on every record with it since the due date into question.

1–2 weeks

Stage 1 + Stage 2 Audit

Stage 1 verifies that the documented system, defined scope, and internal audit cycle are established. Stage 2 moves into actual operations, tracing real orders, batches, and complaints through the relevant controls.

Scheduled around operations

Certificate Issued

A buyer’s vendor portal typically reviews the scope stated on your certificate first, making precise and relevant wording essential. During annual surveillance audits, attention is focused on the processes associated with the highest levels of risk.

Valid 3 years
Four to eight weeks from application is normal once internal audit and management review records exist - and if you name the tender date on the application, the Stage 1 slot is booked against that date rather than against our queue.

Industries That Need ISO 9001

🛡️
Defence Industry
Open full page →
Why it applies hereDefence contracts are awarded on demonstrated process control, not price alone. ISO 9001 gives the documented design, production and inspection controls that defence ministries, state procurement agencies and prime contractors expect at tender pre-qualification, and forms the base layer on which AS9100 and defence-specific quality requirements are built. It also standardises non-conformance and corrective action reporting across long production runs where a single deviation can halt a programme.Typical trigger: Tender pre-qualification; prime contractor onboarding

Commonly taken alongside

Quality, environment and safety share a clause structure, one internal audit programme and one management review, so an integrated audit covers all three in fewer days on site than three separate visits.

Not Sure Which Certification You Need?

Three questions. The selector reads the same industry-to-standard mapping this whole site is built on, then shortlists what applies to you.

Question 1 of 3

Which sector best describes your organisation?

The audit day count follows your scope, not your turnover

Which of your sites would you want an auditor to walk first? The answer tells us where the real risk sits, and that is what decides how the audit days are spread.

What ISO 9001 Changes for Your Business

More than a certificate — a testimony that you have raised the bar and built customer confidence.

🔓

Vendor registration cleared

Procurement portals and pre-qualification sheets that list ISO 9001 as mandatory stop being a dead end, and the file moves through to technical evaluation.

📉

Rejection and rework down

Controlled process parameters, incoming inspection and real root-cause work attack the causes of scrap rather than the symptoms. The cost of poor quality moves within a couple of quarters.

🌍

Recognised in 50+ countries

An IAF-member accredited certificate is accepted by overseas buyers, tender authorities and regulators without a separate verification exercise every time.

🧾

Second-party audits drop away

Many buyers accept an accredited certificate in place of running their own second-party audit. That is days of shop-floor time your team does not spend hosting visitors.

🧩

Base for sector schemes

IATF 16949, AS9100 and ISO 13485 are built on the same structure, so this work is not repeated when a customer later demands the sector scheme.

📊

Management on evidence

Objectives, process measures and complaint trends give the monthly meeting something to act on instead of opinions about how things are going.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to what buyers ask before they commit to ISO 9001.

How long does ISO 9001 certification take?
For an organisation already working to a defined system, four to eight weeks from application is normal: proposal, readiness review, then Stage 1 and Stage 2 with a gap between them. The audit is rarely the constraint. What holds people up is the internal audit round and management review, which must be completed and recorded before Stage 2 can proceed.
Can SIS help us build the system as well as certify it?
No, and no accredited body can. Accreditation rules separate consultancy from certification so that the certificate means something to your customer. SIS audits and issues; a consultant or your own quality manager does the implementation. What SIS will tell you in advance is which records the auditor will ask for, so nobody prepares blind.
What happens to our certificate when ISO 9001 is revised?
A revision has been in development and is expected shortly. When a new edition publishes, IAF sets a transition period - three years in previous revisions - during which existing certificates stay valid and are migrated at a surveillance or recertification audit. No one recertifies from scratch, and current certificates are not invalidated on publication day.
Can we leave design out of our scope?
Yes, if you genuinely do not design. ISO 9001:2015 allows a requirement to be judged not applicable where it cannot affect your ability to deliver conforming product or service, and design and development is the usual case for contract manufacturers and distributors. The justification goes in writing and the auditor tests it against what you actually do.
What happens if a surveillance audit raises a major non-conformity?
You get a defined window, normally a few weeks, to submit correction, root cause and corrective action with evidence. Verified, the certificate carries on unchanged. Ignored, it is suspended and then withdrawn. A suspension is visible to anyone checking the accreditation register, which is why serious buyers ask for a certificate number rather than a PDF.
Is ISO 9001 enough if our customer wants IATF 16949 or ISO 13485?
No. Those are separate certifications with their own audit rules and ISO 9001 does not substitute for either. It does build most of what they rely on: process control, supplier approval, corrective action, internal audit. The extra work becomes sector-specific rather than starting again, which is why many suppliers take ISO 9001 first.
How can I apply for ISO 9001:2015 for my company for quality?
Select an accredited certification body and submit an application. The certification body conducts a Stage 1 audit (readiness/documentation review) followed by a Stage 2 audit (implementation and effectiveness). Address any nonconformities found. If your QMS meets the requirements, the certification body issues the ISO 9001:2015 certificate.
